This is a phrase we hear time and time again. It is a phrase that applies to all elements of life. My brother is going through flight school currently and he is hearing this phrase once again. He heard it all in prep school, the Air Force Academy, and now flight school. I continually am learning this concept. Another time we hear this phrase is when we physically train. We sit there and wonder will we reach the end goal we desire. So, why do people say trust the process? Is it to make us feel better? That the desired outcome will come? Is it said to keep us going? Or is it said as fluff and just to hear something somewhat helpful? Either way it is something we hear, and it is something we will all need to go through.
The process can be highly detailed from going through medical school or just everyday life. Life is a process, period. No matter what you will go through you will have to get through each phase of the process to step out onto the other side. The process is necessary for growth and overall development. We tend to rush the process. We desire results so quickly and realize it’s during the process how we are sharpened and refined. In the end, the process is progress. Each aspect of the process is beneficial for personal growth and development. Ultimately, the process transforms us into whom we need to be which is how we measure it as progress.
How can you learn to trust the process? In other words, how can you trust life, and that everything will be ok? First, we must learn to develop trust and the optimal way to trust is to trust things that are trustworthy. I know it is hard to trust people at times especially if you have had your heart broken. When people lose trust, they lose trust in people. I will say this, there is nothing more trustworthy than God. He is truthful and worthy! If you begin to trust someone who is trustworthy then you will see that the process is worth it. Then you can trust people who look to Him, reflect His very character, and love.
But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint. Isaiah 40:31 NLT
Trusting God is trusting the process. When we learn to trust His plans for our lives. We will learn to trust. Then we will begin to build trust in tough circumstances and believe no matter what comes our way will be for our benefit to develop us. In other words, to just trust is to have faith. Faith is the foundation to all believers. We are called to see by faith and not by what we actually see. Faith allows us to see beyond and keep our eyes on the horizon. Faith allows us to think higher thoughts and not lower thoughts. The faith factor is what you will need to build trust and help you grow through the process. Faith gives us confidence and hope that everything will turn out to be good.
For we live by faith, not by sight 2 Corinthians 5:7 NIV
Faith shows the reality of what we hope for; it is the evidence of things we cannot see. Hebrews 11:1 NLT
Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. Colossians 3:2 NIV
Faith taps into God’s power and our potential to live to our fullest capacity. When we read the word, we must believe what we read, which is faith. When we pray to God, we must believe what we say, which is faith. When we believe what we read in God’s word and believe what we say will happen then mountains will move, and the earth will shake.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take. Proverbs 3:5-6 NLT
Then you will see progress truly take place because of the built-up trust in the process because of your trust in God. When you love God with all your heart you can trust God with all your heart.
